Mónica was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia’s capital city, and lived on the Caribbean coast, specifically in Cartagena and Barranquilla. It’s a region that she adores and knows well.

Mónica graduated with a degree in Political Science and International Affairs from Los Andes University in Bogota and worked as a diplomat for the Colombian Foreign Service for 15 years.  During that time, she served as assistant to the Foreign Minister and Cultural Attaché in the Colombian Embassy in Berlin, Germany. Within this realm, Mónica’s main area of interest and expertise was cultural diplomacy and cultural exchange, which became a catalyst for her role in overseeing the promotion of Colombian culture abroad.

After a series of life changing events that left her burned out and facing serious illness, Mónica left her career as a diplomat and entered into the world of holistic living.

Today, Mónica is a Chopra Center Certified Instructor in Ayurvedic Lifestyle and a Bikram Yoga, Yin Yoga, Meditation and Reiki certified teacher. She has taught in more than 18 yoga and wellness centers spanning several countries around the world and gives instruction in both English and Spanish languages.

Coming from a place of compassion based on her own healing journey, Mónica is committed to embodying and teaching the principles of wellbeing. She embraces a lifestyle that’s rooted in sharing her joy and love of life with the world. Mónica has never stopped passionately promoting the best of Colombia,  a mission that she now shares with her husband DP Waldman, with whom she has co-created “Authentic Colombia – Fine Handicrafts with Purpose”.
