Everything you see in our booths at the markets and in our website, has been crafted by hand by indigeneous and native people from various regions of Colombia- from the Caribbean coast to the Amazon rainforest! Each item is a unique piece of art: gorgeous, vibrant, earthy, magical, and fashionable cross-body bags, beautiful unique hats, filigrana jewelry, beaded necklaces & earrings, gorgeous hammocks, baskets, and a wide variety of bracelets. The mission of Authentic Colombia includes giving back a substantial portion of your purchase to the communities of origin in the form of social projects, resources, education, and employment.

Mónica Bitar and DP Waldman are the founders of Authentic Colombia.
They met at a silent retreat in the desert of Southern California. DP fell in love with Mónica, the land of Colombia, and the cross-body bags called ‘mochilas Wayuu’. Shortly thereafter, due to popular interest and demand, Mónica and DP started offering mochilas and other fine Colombian handicrafts at a local bazaar in Encinitas, CA, then moved over to Rancho Santa Fe Certified Farmers Market until they moved to their current home town Santa Fe, NM.
Mónica and DP are passionate about bringing you inspiring, magical and colorful wearable art that represents the best of Colombian culture and heritage.
Born and raised in the capital city of Bogotá, Colombia, Mónica became a diplomat for the Colombian Foreign Ministry at the age of 22. She served in Colombia and internationally for 14 years. After a powerful series of life events, Mónica left the diplomatic career and entered into the world of holistic health and spirituality. A total believer in the importance of "Cultural Diplomacy", she has never stopped working for Colombia and its people.
DP Waldman is originally from Los Angeles, CA. He's a life-long musician and meditator and has served as a certified professional life coach for more than 20 years. Like Mónica, his wife, he is passionate about Colombian culture and creating bridges between the two countries.
All our products represent the best of Colombian culture and heritage. They come from different regions of the country, covering as much of the Colombian territory as possible.
